This George du Maurier cartoon "True Humility", printed in the magazine Punch, on 9th November 1895, is the origin of the phrase 'The Curate's Egg'. Originally intended ironically and meaning timidly pretending something is good when it isn't, it is now used to describe something which is 'good in parts'.
